Houston Office Captures Excellence in Construction Award - Tuesday, February 19, 2008
On November 1st, the Greater Houston Chapter of ABC held its annual Excellence in Construction Award Ceremony. Local contractors submitted successful project profiles, and the awards committee named 29 finalists before selecting 13 category winners. Cajun Constructors was awarded the top honor in the Heavy Industrial category for projects with a value of less than $25 million.  The Motiva Port Arthur HTU-5 ULSD Foundations and Paving project beat out three other finalists in this category to capture the title.

Construction on the $10.3 million Motiva project began on October 16, 2006, and was completed on May 11, 2007.  Cajun performed the site work for the project and poured 10,000 cubic yards of concrete and placed 34,000 cubic yards of fill material.  The project was completed on time and on budget with no recordable or lost time incidents.  Key staff on the project included David Kaufmann, project manager; James Wischer, assistant project manager; James Johnston, site safety manager; and David Nobles, site QC manager.

A recognition letter cosigned by Jacobs and Motiva management stated:

“Your project team exhibited a ‘can do’ attitude throughout the contract schedule that was challenged by inclement weather, coordination with multiple contractors, on an ever changing project landscape. Their attention and commitment to safety, housekeeping, quality, teamwork, flexibility, and responsiveness made dealing with Cajun Constructors, Inc. a good experience that we would like to carry forward on future projects.”

Cajun’s exceptional work on this project has not only garnered the attention of the local ABC chapter but has furthered Cajun’s reputation as a first-class contractor.  As a result, we have received numerous offers to bid additional work for Motiva and other large clients.

The Houston Division will submit the Motiva project for consideration for the ABC National Excellence in Construction Award, which will be presented on June 18, 2008 in Washington, D.C.
