Cajun Nominated for VIPS Award - Friday, June 27, 2008
Cajun Industries, LLC was nominated by Woodlawn High School for a VIPS (Volunteers In Public Schools) 2008 Golden Apple Award. Cajun’s work with Woodlawn through the ABC Program Partners Initiative prompted the recognition.

Cajun was recognized for its service to the public school system at the 2008 Volunteer Picnic and Apple Awards ceremony on April 8, 2008. Mayor-President Kip Holden and Superintendent Charlotte Placide were on hand to present certificates of recognition. Nominees enjoyed jambalaya before the ceremony and were entertained by a choir from Glen Oaks Park Elementary and a jazz band from McKinley High School.

As part of ABC’s Program Partners Initiative, Cajun Industries has teamed with five area high schools, including Woodlawn High School, to provide support for their industrial arts classes. Cajun’s work at Woodlawn has included the design, construction and installation of study cubicles for an entire classroom.

Cajun employee, Glenn Carter, was also nominated for an individual Golden Apple Award for his service to Northdale Academy High School. Glenn volunteers his time every Friday to speak to the students about the hazards of drugs and crime and about the importance of education. Glenn said that his wife, Ramona, who attended the awards ceremony with him, plays a large role in his commitment to Northdale. “She motivates me,” said Glenn.

Cajun salutes Glenn for the contributions that he is making to the children of our community, and we thank all of those who have participated in Cajun’s programs with the local high schools.
